Scholarship Program of the Airmen Memorial Foundation

The AMF runs scholarship programs to help eligible dependents of military personnel pay for their undergraduate studies. AMF/CMSAF/AFSA scholarships range from $1,000 to $5,000 and are available to students aged 23 and under attending an accredited academic institution.

Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship Eligibility

The following are eligible to apply for the scholarship:

  • Unmarried child/adopted or stepchild of an active duty, retired, or veteran USAF, ANG, or AFRC member. There are no officer dependents.
  • You must be 23 years old or younger, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • a senior in high school or a full-time college undergraduate student
  • Enrolled or accepted at an accredited college or university
  • There are no membership requirements for the applicant or sponsor.
  • The applicant must be financially dependent on his or her parent or guardian for more than half of the time.

Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship Key Dates

  • Application Opens: between January 1 and APRIL 15. Applications for the upcoming academic year are available.
  • Application Deadline: Completed application packages, including all required documents, must be submitted here by April 15. Applications received after April 15 are ineligible for consideration.

How to Apply for Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Follow the below steps to apply:

Step #1

Sections A-H of the editable PDF Application Instructions PDF [185KB] must be completed in order.

Step #2

When finished, sign and date the application. If you do not include the last four digits of your social security number (SSN) or collegiate identification number, funds will not be processed to the school.

Step #3

Include ONE of the following: the sponsor’s proof of service, a copy of the sponsor’s DD 214, and a copy of the sponsor’s discharge papers. Add it to the application package. Original documents should not be sent because they will not be returned. Make sure the social security number on your sponsor’s military identification cards is blacked out.

Step #4

High school graduates and college transfer students must include a copy of their acceptance letter from the college of their choice.

Step #5

All applicants are required to submit an official transcript of their grades. High school graduates must have completed all grades from 9th to 12th. College students must include their cumulative grade record(s) while enrolled in an undergraduate program. If the applicant has changed schools, the transcript(s) from the previous school(s) MUST be submitted. The cumulative GPA must be 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. NOTE: If your school uses a weighted GPA scale, the applicant is responsible for converting the weighted GPA to a 4.0 unweighted GPA. Packets with a weighted GPA will be ineligible.

Step #6

A letter of recommendation is required for all applicants. If the applicant has recently graduated from high school, the letter must be written by the principal or a high school counselor. If the applicant is currently enrolled in college, the letter must be written by a college professor; otherwise, if the applicant is a first-year college student, the letter may be written by the applicant’s high school principal. The letter must be written on official school stationary and must include an ORIGINAL signature.

Step #7

Applicants must submit a double-spaced, typed paragraph outlining their life goals in response to the question, “What do you intend to do with the education you receive?”

Step #8

The applicant must submit a typed, double-spaced one-page essay in response to the question, “What is the most pressing problem confronting society today?”

Step #9

Include a typed, double-spaced two-page essay about a current, contentious issue in your application package.

Step #10

Include a completed “Additional Information” page citing the exceptional need for a scholarship, if applicable.

Step #11

Include two self-addressed, stamped, blank postcards with mail-in submissions. One will be sent to the applicant acknowledging receipt of the package, while the other will inform the applicant of non-selection. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail and listed in the AFSA SERGEANTS magazine.

Step #12

These instructions must be signed and attached to your application. You can sign these instructions and the required application by downloading and signing them. AFTER JANUARY 1, completed application packages containing all required documents can be mailed to: “Scholarship Program for AMF/CMSAF/AFSA, Auth Road, 5211, 20746 Suitland, Maryland”. Step #13

The completed application package must be received at AFSA Headquarters by APRIL 15 for the upcoming academic year.
